Lift Stations
Lift stations are used to reduce the capital cost of sewer system construction. Sewer systems typically depend on gravity to move sewage and water through the system. When the flow encounters inclines or requires trenches deeper than 10 feet lift stations can become more economical. The size of gravity sewer lines is dependent on the minimum pipe slope and flow. Pumping waste water can convey the same flow using smaller pipe at shallower depth reducing pipeline costs.
Dry or Wet Pit?
Dry pit stations have been in use for many years. In dry pit lift stations the pumps, valves and controls are ounted in a pump/control house above ground or in a seperate pit from the pit containing the wastewater being pumped. This makes the pumps easily accessible for maintenance and repair. |
